Our Commitment to Your Privacy

Kandou is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your quotes, categories, and personal reflections belong to you, not to us or any third party. This privacy policy explains how Kandou handles your information, and the short version is: your data stays on your devices and in your own private iCloud, where we can't see it.

What Data We Collect

Data We Don't Collect

Kandou does not collect your personal data, and nothing you create is sent to us or to any server we operate. Specifically, we never access:

• Your quotes, categories, or any content you create in the app
• Your name, email address, or other personal identifiers
• Your location data
• Your device contacts, camera, microphone, or location
• Analytics, usage tracking, or advertising information

Where Your Data Lives

Everything you create in Kandou, including quotes, categories, rotation settings, and preferences, is stored on your iPhone. If you are signed in to iCloud, your quotes and categories also sync through your own private iCloud account, as described below. There is no Kandou account to create, and no data is transmitted to servers we operate.

iCloud Sync

Since version 1.3, Kandou keeps your quotes and categories in sync through iCloud, so they follow you to a new iPhone and come back after a reinstall. Here is how it works:

• Your private database: Kandou uses Apple's CloudKit to keep your quotes and categories in the private database of your own iCloud account. Only you, signed in with your Apple Account, can read it.
• We have no access: the data travels between your devices and Apple's iCloud servers. It never passes through us, and we cannot see, read, or recover it.
• What syncs: your quotes and categories. Rotation schedules, widget setup, and other preferences stay on each device.
• Automatic, with nothing to set up: sync is on whenever your iPhone is signed in to iCloud. Without an iCloud account, Kandou works entirely on your iPhone.
• Your iCloud storage: synced data counts toward your iCloud storage, although quotes are text and take very little space. Apple stores it under Apple's Privacy Policy.

Backups: Export and Import

Kandou can export your whole collection as a file and import a backup you made earlier. This also happens entirely on your device:

• Export: the backup file or the readable text archive is created on your iPhone and handed to the standard iOS share sheet. Where it goes from there (Files, AirDrop, Mail) is up to you.
• Plain text files: exported files are not encrypted, so treat them like any other personal document.
• Import: Kandou reads only the backup file you pick, adds what is missing from your collection, and never deletes anything.
• Nothing reaches us: we never receive your exports or your imports.

Home Screen Widget

Kandou's Home Screen widget displays your quotes directly on your iPhone's Home Screen. Widget data is shared between the app and the widget extension using an App Group container, which is a secure, on-device mechanism provided by Apple. This data sharing happens entirely on your device and does not involve any network activity.

Sharing & Photos

Kandou can turn a quote into an image to share or to save as a wallpaper. This works entirely on your device:

• Your photos: the Photo share style lets you place a quote over one of your own photos. You choose that photo through Apple's photo picker, so Kandou receives only the single image you pick and never browses your photo library.
• Saving images: when you save a quote image or wallpaper, Kandou adds it to your Photos with your permission. It can add images but cannot read your existing library.
• Nothing is uploaded: images are rendered on your device. Sharing uses the standard iOS share sheet, and where the image goes from there is up to you.

In-App Purchases

Kandou offers an optional one-time In-App Purchase (Kandou Pro) through Apple's App Store. Purchase transactions are processed entirely by Apple using their StoreKit framework:

• We do not process, store, or have access to your payment information
• All billing is handled by Apple and subject to Apple's Privacy Policy
• Purchase status is stored locally on your device

Kandou's only network activity is the StoreKit purchase flow and iCloud sync, and both are handled entirely by Apple's system frameworks.

Contact & Support Requests

If you contact us through our website's support form or via email, we collect:

• Your name (as provided)
• Your email address (to respond to your inquiry)
• The content of your message

This information is used solely to respond to your support request. We do not use this information for marketing, and we do not share it with third parties. Support correspondence is retained only as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry.

Third-Party Services

Kandou does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The app uses only Apple's first-party frameworks: SwiftUI, SwiftData, CloudKit, WidgetKit, and StoreKit 2.

The App Store may collect anonymous analytics about app downloads and crashes, which is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of sharing this data with developers in your device's Settings under Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Children's Privacy

Kandou is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since the app does not collect personal data from any users, it is safe for use by people of all ages.

Data Security

Your data security is protected by Apple's platform security features. Data stored on your device is protected by your device's passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID, and data synced to iCloud is protected by your Apple Account and Apple's iCloud security. The app does not use non-exempt encryption. We recommend keeping your device updated to the latest iOS version for the best security.

Your Rights & Data Control

Your data lives on your devices and in your own iCloud account, so you have complete control over it:

• Access: All your data is visible directly in the app
• Export: You can export your whole collection at any time from the Settings tab, as a backup file or a readable text archive
• Deletion: You can delete any quote or category at any time within the app, and the deletion syncs to iCloud and your other devices
• Complete removal: Uninstalling the app removes Kandou's data from that device. To also remove the copy in iCloud, open iOS Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, and delete Kandou's data from your iCloud storage
• No server-side data: There is no data stored on our servers to request or delete

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or our website. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
